Family Mini Session | Tips

The best images come when our families feel connected! We want to not only create beautiful images for you, but great memories to go with them.

We will still get those classic images of you all looking at the camera, because they have their place! These images are great to go out on Christmas cards and social updates. The images that I personally love to display in my own home are the ones that communicate connection.

Locations, Lighting & Props

Photographers can have the knack to turn an otherwise ordinary spot into something extraordinary with the right lighting and posing guidance! Less manicured parks, views and low lighting can create the look we are known for.

We *love* golden hour which can give us that golden whimsical look we often show in our images. We always schedule our sessions within the last two hours before the sun is scheduled to go down because it gives the most even lighting and warm glow (When we are shooting in the mountains where the sun slips away earlier we will suggest a time based on your location.)

We will be focusing on you as a family rather than using props as these sessions are shorter. I will have a cream neutral blanket for some sitting shots. If you have something specific you'd like to bring, Im happy to fit it in (just let me know in advance so I can make a plan!) Dogs can come too - but my suggestion is bringing someone to watch the dog during the rest of the session so that we can just sneak them in for a few. I like to bring little mini marshmallows to give the kids "challenges" to keep them engaged. Let me know if we need to make alternative plans.

What to expect from your session

You will have one photographer and an assistant at the location we've decided on, and we will shoot for a 20 minute session. The assistant will be at the parking lot/or meeting place we will communicate the week before our session to lead you to the spot where the photos will be taken. Please arrive early so that you can find parking, be ready to walk to the spot and start your photo session at your scheduled time. We deliver 30 edited images in an online gallery which you will receive within three weeks.

What to wear to your session

When choosing your outfits - clothes that compliment one another is best! For example, if someone is wearing a patterned shirt - you may want to have the other person in something solid with a colour from the pattern.

We suggest planning the footwear you will wear in advance as this often gets forgotten.

Ladies.

Remember to remove any hair elastics or Fitbit/watch.

Guys- remember to remove your phone from your pockets.

Avoid logos/text on your clothes and hats.

Testimonials

“We had fall family photos done by Ashley and they are by far the best pictures we’ve had of our family thus far. I appreciated her knowing the location and lighting and poses, as well as how well she put my kids and us at ease behind the camera. She really brought out the best of our family and we were more than happy with the results. Ashley is the perfect blend of friendliness with professionalism. I could tell she put in the extra effort giving us so many different poses and locations and then editing it”
